We have just returned from a cruise which had watercolour classes on board. In Seattle we visited the Chihuly Glass garden (a-maz-ing!!) which inspired this painting for one of the exercises in the painting class. It is painted wet on wet, wet on dry and splattered. I had folded the thick watercolour paper in half to make a card. It is folded to A5 size.
While on board we got to know a lady who was turning 80, so I turned the painting into a birthday card for her, by painting the inside with a couple more flowers and writing birthday greetings (I forgot to photograph the inside). She was thrilled as she had visited the Chihuly Gardens and says she intends to frame it.
And: a photo of the actual glass flowers - they are enormous and hang from the roof of a giant glass house. The Chihuly Gardens are just by the Space Needle; You can see the Space Needle in the glasshouse photo.

What a great idea to turn the painting into a birthday card for the lady on board. And it turned out absolutely beautiful! I can see what she intends to frame it.
