Koru

The koru (emerging fern frond) is important in Maori culture and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.  All over the world you may meet someone wearing a pounamu (greenstone/jade) pendant in a koru design.

Kiaora is a multipurpose informal greeting word in maori which can mean hello/hi, goodbye, be well, good luck and thanks.

This is card is using my new koru die and sequins which just arrived in the mail (green and purple - what were they thinking?).  Using shades of green I diecut then stencilled the koru lightly, inked the edges with distress inks, then the whole thing with Versamark, then clear-heat-embossed.  I stamped the sentiment and clear embossed that too.

PS, If you used offcuts/scrap - also known as snippets - on your card, why not come and join us in the Snippets Playground fortnightly challenge, It's a fun place, no theme other than using one or more snippets and also I bet you know a few girls who already play over there! x

  8. Lovely to see you joining in with the Snippets Playground Carol! Sorry to be a nuisance, but I now ask people to say in a comment if they want to play for the prize - purely because a couple of times winners said they'd just been playing for fun and I had to mess around doing a redraw :) If you're not interested in the prize then that's fine but a positive indication if you wish to play for part or all of the prize really helps me keep things on track. Thanks!

  9. How interesting. These designs make an interesting feature on a card. Beautiful subtle stamping on them too.

  11. Hi Carol!

Sorry I didn't explain myself very well about the prize situation. The Playground is such a happy place that it's very rare that anyone would join in and not comment at all. If you play regularly you'll find that it's just that sort of place. Personally I never join in a challenge without leaving a comment and that's why I say quite specifically that when folk are playing for the prize they must say yes please or similar words - just so I know for sure to include them when I do the draw. You're included as, from your second comment, it seems that you like the prize :) I hope this makes sense now. Good luck and thanks again for playing with us!
