I just got this new stamp from Stampendous and had a bit of fun with it, cutting slots to poke in tabs with little messages.  I added gems to help pull out and also to stop the tabs disappearing right into the card, and mounted it with 3d foam tape surrounding the slots to make pockets.  Distress Inks as watercolours to colour the image.

This week the prompts are: Something I can't live without, Spot in Town, Sometimes, Corner, Your choice.

Something I can't live without:  decent knives

Spot in Town:  Cambridge side street.   As  you can see it has been pouring with rain all week.  This old building sits on a corner and mainly houses an antique shop and various other small boutique shops.  I think it used to be a hotel in days gone by.

Sometimes:  ... we eat at Gengy's Mongolian Barbecue.

Corner:  Here is a corner of a quilt shop.  It seems most quilt shops have these lovely little displays tucked away for us to discover.

Your choice:  We had a frost one morning and a lovely sunny day after (this is the edge of our semi-communal backyard, see three other houses).

Greeting Bird

 

I made this for the NZ cardswap; we had to use a faux torn mosaic technique.    I didn't enjoy doing this one much, so diecut it and used it for background.  I used one of Tim Holtz bird diecuts (which I really like), inked the edges etc and gave him a twig to help with the nest building (it's spring here and the birds are nesting).  The torn up mosaic snippets are from offcuts of another project.

This week the prompts were: Everyday, Plant Quarterly, Strapped, Starts with V, Your choice.

Everyday:  For me the day starts with a milky coffee, on a fine day it's outside.

Plant Quarterly:   We just re-planted our thornless blackberry - totally bare at the moment - will look totally different in 3 months.

Strapped:  this was the best I could do; the strap of my shoulder bag.

Starts with V:  Vase of Flowers

these are daffodils from bulbs we brought with us from the old house - they have flowered better here!  I moved them against the dark background and I like the shading of the background and the shadow.

Your choice:  This is our new water garden, seen from inside the house.

Tree & studies

 

The studies:  we used trees to experiment with textures, mark making and ways of getting paint onto paper.  Paintbrushes, texture medium, palette knife, paper towels.  

For this picture of a tree I chose adding texture medium to paint and used a palette knife:

This week's prompts are:  Feature, On your plate, Forecast, Future, Choose anything monthly.

Feature:  we had this little spot at our new house that just needed a water feature.  I had been looking for a while waiting for the right one, and I happened to visit a garden centre on the other side of town and found just what we wanted.   And guess what?  they had everything marked down 40% that day!  I like that we see it from inside the house too.  So the garden is all planted and ready to grow.  In a years time it will look fantastic.

On your plate:  Strictly not on your plate but in a box - a bento box - YUM.

Forecast:  one day this week we had this lovely dawn, and a few lovely sunny days to enjoy.

Future:   a future vegetable garden in the process of being made.   A little garden compared to the large one we had at the other house.  We are trying the no-dig system which has specified layers. A newspaper layer,  scraps and garden waste, manure straw, newspaper, compost straw/leaves, garden mix - then when we are ready to plant in spring we will put on the straw with pockets of compost/garden mix for the plants.  You won't recognise it in six months time!

The plant in the tub is a thornless blackberry.

This weeks prompts are: Heat, design, Starts with K, Beside, your choice.

Heat:  well, this was tricky as we are in winter while all you northerners are enjoying heatwaves, but yesterday I did have a nice hot pot of soup for lunch when the stitching girls came yesterday.

Design:  in the house move I re-discovered this wonderful cushion cover with lots of different designs on it.  I had bought in Hong Kong years ago, and it goes beautifully on the teal sofa and makes me happy to see it.

Starts with K: it's got to be knitting at the moment, a great winter occupation.

Beside:  I just bought another cyclamen to go beside the one I already had that was a bit lonely.  Actually I had these two gorgeous pots and just had to use them.

Your choice: wildflowers in the paddock.  I thinks it's yarrow.
