Birdie Thanks

Another timed card at 15 minutes.  Timed challenges are you against you.

The coordinating papers and focal panel (with a whole 12x12 of ready-to-go panels) are from a My Minds Eye 12x12 pad and already have sugar sparkle on.  Trimmed the stripey card, embossed a snippet of blue (Cuttlebug), tied bakers twine and stuck to white card base.  The focal panel is popped up on foam tape and added diecut sentiment from a snippet of lime card (stacked x2).

This would be good for a man ... no fuss no mush.

Bbbbutterfly

I was sent the butterfly diecut and the sentiment diecut by a cardmaking friend to make a card for her and me to swap.  I don't know what the brand is.  I coloured the butterfly with Distress Oxide ink and partially embossed in silver using an embossing pen.  The background is an old EF magazine freebee from Practical Publishing called In the Garden which I re-discovered; I used Distress Oxide Sprays, with some stickles in the flower centres.  The silver dots on the butterfly body are drop-outs from a die.

Gold Seasonal

This card is made from a Rosie's Studio set of cordinating card and punch out embellishments.

I decided on a subtle tone-on-tone with gold highlights and kept it fairly CAS.  The card is already gold embossed, this was a very quick card.  I like fairly simple designs that have subtle detail.

FQ star quilt

Lately I've been working on a Suzy Quilts Fat Quarter Star Quilt sew-along with two quilty friends.

The fabrics and colours we chose are wildly different and it always amazes me that the same design in a different fabric can make a quilt that looks nothing like the others.  I chose a smoky blue as the background and from my stash a collection of paisleys, long overdue to be used.

I have finished the top and now just have to quilt it!  I have to state here that I am a really good starter and a really bad finisher.   I will post again when it's finished.

Birthday Bunny

A birthday bunny for a Son-in-law who is a hunter.  He will get the irony.

Stamped & coloured with Copics.  Stencilled with DI's, black inky splatter. Sentiment stamped and gold embossed.  White and gold metallic pens.

Thankful Birds

I have been captivated by the SOS timed challenge.  Here is a twofer!!  35 minutes making two at the same time = 17 min each.

I started out to make one card and ended up with a twofer.   I chose two coordinating papers from a 6x6 pad (this makes it easy and saves time) and stacked them together then diecut with a double sided die.  Whoa, two cards almost made already.  Just grabbed snippets of chocolate and aqua card, diecut sentiments. Base cards are black, and white, one with a chocolate mat the other with an aqua mat.

One panel wrapped with chiffon ribbon and tiny gold pearls, the other tied with chocolate bakers twine.

DPapers are from Rosie's Wedding paper pad in dark chocolate and aqua (I've had this for years!).

This challenge was such fun to do and takes creativity in another direction.  Hint: limiting the colour palette makes it fast - less decisionmaking required.

All stuff from stash.  Actually everything I make is from stash, I have lots of stash.  I think it will last until I'm 140 yo.

Flowery Thanks

Challenged by SOS for a quick thank you card under 30 minutes; mine timed at 26 minutes.

For a fast result I chose a couple of coordinating DPapers from Grace Taylor.  Inked the edges of the white base card with Abandoned Coral DI's to coordinate.  Diecut the simple sentiment, stacked it x4 and reinserted it into the space, added a coordinating ribbon and bow, and some gold card dots that were collected dropouts from a die.

This is a design that would be easy to do a do in a batch. All supplies from stash.  The thing that took the longest time was cutting and stacking the sentiment.  I really enjoyed the challenge of time pressure to come up with something interesting.  I've never done anything like that before.  And I think it's one of my fave recent makes.

Golden Thanks

Kinda CAS, a simple thank you which would suit male or female, in black & white and gold.

Background DP is from a DCWV matstack I have had for years & still love, edges heat embossed.  The Tim Holtz/Sizzix bold word die is cut from black and the negative used.  A little fox stamp, heat embossed in lack on dull gold card and fussy-cut, is a magazine freebie years ago from Practical Publishing - I love the simplicity of the images.  Fox is popped up on foam tape.  More dull gold card as a mat under the diecut senti.  I debated putting sparkles on but they took away more than they added.

Roses say Thanks

Stamped, fussy cut, coloured in watercolour style with Ranger Distress Inks. P.Paper is Scrapwow (it looks so real), edges lightly inked with DI's.   Diecut sentiment.  White pen highlights, gold pen stamens.  I debated whether to add gold pearls, but decided to keep the rustic look.  Roses stamp is SimonSaysStamp.

Stamped image coloured with Copics and fussycut.  An embossed background, a punched border (Fiskars), two washitape strips (one music, one dotty), a bow.  the sentiment is stamped on a diecut snippet.  Image and sentiment popped up on 3D  foam. ? Penny Black must check.

Red Birthday

A reverse birthday bold sentiment using the background paper to make the statement.  I wanted a simple, masculine feel and strong colours.

The sentiment is a Sizzix/THoltz bold diecut in red card laid over a kinda floral DP in red/white.  I used a Tim Holtz/Sizzix eucalyptus die in two colurs of green whisked with a brush of DI for shading. Black dots made with Enamel Accents.

Pumpkin Thanks

I'm totally enjoying making not-cards at the moment - very addictive.

Here is a CAS one made with a diecut tag, pumpkin, and sentiment in tiny text.  Background of tag stamped with copper metallic Versacolor ink, topped with a snippet pulled along the dotted line from the top of a card pad.  Pumpkin bits coloured with Ranger DI's, finger brushed with Opal Dust for sparkle. Tied with bakers twine.

Beautiful Day

I have just got back from a week-long Spring Fling Garden Tour in the South Island - remember in New Zealand it's SPRING.  An amazing inspirational week seeing gardens - large, small, sculpture, old ones, fairly new ones, as well as *Molesworth Station, museums -Steampunk and aircraft.    Barkers in Geraldine (makes fruit products like sauces, jams etc), Whitestone Cheeses, the fairy penguins coming home from the sea at night in Oamaru, Rainbow Confection (makes sweets), a night in a forest stargazing, two amazing fetes... and much more.   Lots of fabulous breakfasts, dinners, a high tea, paperbag picnic lunches, and on the last night we had a dress up Las Vegas night dinner in Ashburton (AKA AshVegas).  The weather was fabulous the whole eight days - sunny and warm, sleeping with just a sheet over.

*Molesworth Station is a high country cattle station. It is located behind the Inland Kaikōura Mountain range in the South Island's Marlborough District. It is New Zealand's largest farm, at over 1,800 square kilometres (440,000 acres)[1] and supports the country's biggest herd of cattle. It also hosts government science programs, such as research into bovine tuberculosis and related research into possums.[2] The station helps rabbit population reduction.[3]

This is a great technique, I don't know what it's called.  You stamp the image on white card and on coloured card with the same stamp.  Colour the white stamped image if you want, and diecut a panel from the other.  Trim it up and place over the coloured image lining up the stamping.   Sentiment is stamped, embossed in gold, diecut.  Embellished with gold pearls.  Colouring is Copics.

* Thanks Carol Gill - it's called eclipse stamping.

Owl Hooray

Animals, critters - we all make cards with them.
Cute or crazy we love 'em all.

We'd love to have you join us at Critter Crazy, here: crittercrazy

All you need is a critter to be the focal point of your work.

It's graduation time here in NZ, the end of the academic year.  I chose an owl for my graduation card and three manly looking patterned papers.  Paper is ScrapWow. I diecut a moon with Spellbinders, handcut a banner for the sentiment and popped in a shiny gold brad for the star of the show.  The owl is coloured with Copics, and eyes have Glossy Accents to make them glow.  The owl digi is Bugaboo, sadly no longer available.
