HM Outdoor Fun

I still love wash days.  I know some places you are not allowed to hang washing outdoors, or the air is too polluted, or outdoors is not available.  Fortunately we are able to enjoy the joy of hanging clothes out in the sunshine and fresh air.  I think nothing can beat the smell of sunshine in clothes, or the sound of them flapping in the breeze.

Of course these little guys are having fun, who wouldn't?

Sending Happy

I like sending random cards to people for no reason at all.  I hope it brightens their day.  I like this bird in it's leafy bower and hope it sends the chirpy message.

I used patterned paper for the top layer and a couple of vellum diecuts underneath.  The bird is a couple of layers thick.  I like layering because it adds dimension without being too thick in the envelope.

iSpy #14

We are already onto Lysha's challenge iSpy #14!!

This week it's:   Wood,   Music,   Easter or Sunday,   Button,   own choice.

WOOD:  I didn't have to go far for this.  Ian does woodturning and stuff like that , so here is ONE pile of his wood stash.  You may notice it is full of cobwebs, hmm, not used that often.   I like that it makes a kind of abstract pattern.  Maybe I'll try some manipulation as well.

MUSIC:  Unfortunately we aren't musical (I love music; wish I was, I have tried), and don't have musical friends/family nearby, so I decided to go outside the box.  It has rained all day today and we have this big puddle collects on our driveway, perfect for my boat.  The boat is folded from old sheet music that I keep in my card making stash.

EASTER or SUNDAY:  Our youngest daughter Lauren stayed over Easter weekend, so what happens? Chocolate happens of course.  This little plate seemed to have chocolate on it all weekend, and it all seemed to vanish.  I know... it was that naughty bunny!

BUTTON:  One night our son and his family joined us for dinner and a game of Family Feud.  The grandkids love to use these buttons when they want to answer a question.  The buttons have lots of ways of saying the word, so it can get a bit chaotic.

OWN CHOICE:  Sorry, it's another one of my tadpoles/frogs.  Some of the other frogs have hopped away down to the creek, but this little one is still hanging around, and sits sunning itself on the rock.
They are so pretty with their gold racing stripes.

You might have noticed I'm a bit obsessed with reflections and can't resist (3 pics this time).
I can't wait to see what our next prompts are!  All my photos are taken on my Samsung phone.

Get Well Cat

I made this for an DT buddy.  It is stamped, paperpieced, sponged and splattered.  The background is sponged with Distress Inks, and splattered with Perfect Pearls.
I love these cats, you can put almost any sentiment with them, and I love his tiny bunny slippers.

Swipe-inking Owl

The background is a direct to paper inking technique the demonstrator called swinking (  I have used this technique before but didn't know it was called that and I have since been told that name has another rude meaning.  The owl was given to me by a cardmaking buddy (thanks Val) and is stamped on cork.

Outside the Lines

It seems like I have been doing only DT work lately and just felt the need to do my own choice.

I made the background and stamped and coloured the cat (Clive, I think).  I put the tiniest sliver of green card so he would have a line to step outside of.  I also made sure the sentiment went outside the background.

I have a bird feeder just like this, minus the mouse.  I'm sure all creatures celebrate spring... look at that fat little tummy!   This was difficult to make as we are going into autumn and not feeling very spring-y.

i Spy #13

Another week of inspiration for the iSpy challenge.

This week the prompts were Sepia, White, Street, starts with K, own choice.

Sepia:  I thought my old clock on the bookcase would look good in sepia.   I like how the shapes show up more in sepia/monochrome - the straight lines, curves, angles.   Huh? I just realised the hands of the clock are lined up!

White:  This furbaby is the first thing I ever won.  It was in the 1980's - in a competition for a catfood company. Fluffy lives in our guest bedroom and likes white bedlinen.

Street:  This is our street:   We live in the country (but just outside the city) on a small block (1 hectare) among other small blocks. Our letterbox is the middle, the red one with the chicken on top.  The autumn leaves from the row of gold ash trees over the road line the sides like a leafy parade (they are just out of shot).  Every time a car goes by they ruffle and stir and twirl, then give a sigh and settle down again until the next car comes by (it looks so pretty).  As each car passes they work their way to the sides of the road.

Starts with a K:  this has to be Kiwifruit.  It is coming up to harvest time for Kiwifruit in NZ, and Ian and I love to help out our friends in their kiwifruit orchard.  I love to walk amongst the vines when they are in flower (it is like fairyland, with the blossoms all hanging down like ballerinas), and again when the fruit hangs heavy ready to be picked.  The mobility scooters are handy for working under the vines as when they are heavy with fruit they hang lower and lower - you can see here Ian has to stoop.  We wear hats because otherwise hair gets tangled in the vines and you get covered in dust and vegetation.

Own Choice:  A bright spot of colour and a friendly bumble.

Lysha, I am so enjoying this experience.  I have always taken lots of photos, but never in such a directed way.  It certainly makes you more aware of what you're seeing.  Thanks for that.  CarolG

You toucan rock!  Such a colourful bird, when I looked them up I was amazed that there are so many kinds and colours of toucan.  I layered the image and the sentiment so it stood out from the EF and made some nice shadows.

HM Butterfly Spring

What could be better than lying in warm chocolate with flowers and butterflies all around?

I made the background like this: I diecut butterfly shapes from watercolour paper, coloured them with water-based pens and spritzed with water a lot, then printed them onto a large sheet of wet watercolour paper.

House mouse is stamped, coloured, then cut out and applied to the background.
