HM 386 Spppriiing time

House Mouse & Friends are feeling Spprriiingy.   I thought a spring image could also have a sppriing sentiment, so made a paper spring to go under the sentiment circle.  Here in NZ we are going into autumn, so not likely to see spring flowers anytime soon, but something to look forward to.

Quilted Mug Mat

Made for a cardswap with quilted theme; I made a mug mat that can be detached from the card to use.  Underneath the quilt is a stitched panel with a stamped quilt topper, so that when the mugmat is taken off, there is still a card (forgot to photograph it and now it's sent - but see a sample at bottom).

I hope the person who received it thinks of me when she uses it and that way we can have a virtual cuppa together whenever she wants.

Dinosaur Friendly Green

Green.  The technique is torn edge stamping.  Tear paper, lay it out with a gap and stamp the gap.  Inkblended edges and a bit of splatter too.

I made this card for a friend, we are both dinosaurs and I thought she would enjoy the joke.  She did.

Gotta say, I love these crazy cats.   I made the background by smooshing Distress Inks and making a doodled border. I stamped this cat onto a snippet of patterned paper and cut it out; some stacked layers make a little shadow.

Fishy Cat

These crazy cats are so funny and so is the birthday sentiment (stamp: Tim Holtz or Katzelcraft? no packaging).  Masked the image and used an Artist Cellar Stencil for the background with DI's, also WoS, Opal Dust for scales on the fish.  Two sons-in-law are fishermen.

Galentines

Apparently February 13th is galentines day - a day celebrating girl friends.

This is an image that says it all - me and three friends out doing the girlfriend thing.  I love my girlfriends.

Those of you who know us as the Quilty Girls - can you pick who is who?  Hint: You can tell by the clothes and the colours.

I am sending this to the GIRLFRIEND in green who is a bit cut off at the moment because of the recent rain and flood damage.  She has had a very hard 12 months.

mySpy 11 Feb

mySpy   11 February.  We are bracing for yet more bad weather in the next few days- a tropical cyclone this time, apparently a once-in-a-century event with a lot of emergency preparations being made in advance.  However the temps are still summer hot and we are glad to have it that way.

I took these photos last week to add to the last mySpy.  These are inside the clubhouse at the village.

the bar on the left, dining area and cafe in the middle back.  Looking through the door is a outdoor patio with tables and BBQ area

the lounge area with fireplace and baby grand

The lounge area looking out onto the bowling green. There is also a giant chess set and petanque court.  In the background behind the black fence is where the Care Centre is being built.  It includes a rest home and dementia unit.

When Ian and I walk down to the clubhouse for the mail, we often stop for a couple of games of pool. It is airconditioned and so nice to have something to do out of the heat.

The library.  The middle aisle shelves also hold games, jigsaws, magazines etc. while at the end are tables and seating to read newspapers and do puzzles ... there is usually one on the go and people might just stop and do a bit for 15 or 30 minutes

Our street (6 houses each side) with the Seven Oaks park area at the end next to the road.  Over the summer sometimes on a Sunday afternoon people will take a chair and some wine and just get together under the trees out of the heat

Now this is a project we did yesterday at our Quilty Girls.  Gayle had got hold of some blocks and a bit of fabric at a suitcase sale, but needed more blocks to make it into a quilt.  The blocks already made had two of each kind except for two designs which only had one. Fiona and I were going to do a block each, so we got it all out to work out what was needed.  We had instructions for one block, but had to work out the dimensions of the other block.  I'm rubbish at maths, so Fiona worked out the dimensions of the existing block (harder than you would think once it's stitched together) and I did the cutting.  We all tried out the fabric selection as they had to go with the rest of the blocks.  Gayle is going to make a larger centre panel of circular flying geese that these blocks will be set around.

halfway through the process; the fabric is cut.
Then we took them home to stitch.

My completed block on the left and the existing block on the right.

It will be exciting to see the progress on this quilt.  I'm sure Gayle will let me show you when it is finished.  It is for someone's special birthday next February.  It is such fun working collaboratively (even in such a small part or a project) as a team.  Gayle made us a super lunch which we had out in her courtyard under the sun umbrella with some bubbles.  Yahoo!

I hope you have a good week,   xx CarolG
