Joyeux Noel

Joyeux Noel

Christmas with a  French flavour.  This is another one I can use properly now I'm learning French (and know what they mean!).

I hope you enjoy your petit visit to France at Christmas in this card.

Global Christmas

A Christmas tree with sentiments in many languages, isn't it great?  I've had this stamp for a long time now, and every year I get it out again.

This time it is stamped, cut out with fancy craft scissors, Kindyglitzed and edges inked, attached with dimensional foam.  It has a double separate star in gold mirror card.  Great non-traditional colours really suit our southern Christmas too!

herd of zebras?

Herd of zebras?
Here is a card using one bold zebra stamp repeated over and over... with just a splash of colour.  I really enjoyed doing this even though it is really quite a simple design.  I think it shows the stripes and the stamp off well.

Heart sparkle

Challenges: Sparkle; Monochrome; Sketch; Dies- punches; B&W pop of colour.

I find it really difficult to make 'mushy' cards and this is about as close as it gets!  I like simple and I didn't want lots of colours competing either, so here it is.

I really like this sketch, and even though I decided to stick with the hearts this time, it really is versatile and could have any detail instead.

This image of a snowman blowing kisses is just so cute... and fortunately I have a die of kisses & hugs.
Wintry monochrome blue colour scheme and a bit of sparkle with the brad and the brushed silver card for the XOXO ... is it a sentiment?  ... yes, it is!

Summer Christmas

Well doesn't that look relaxed and cool?  Here in the  southern hemisphere we celebrate Christmas in the heat, hence he is happy to have the odd ice crystal around, mainly in the drink, and a bit of R&R in the water.

Awesome

Special Birthday

One of the special things about being a cardmaker is our ability to personalise.

I used torn pieces of scrap paper as a mask and inked the landscape; and used diecut clouds as a reverse stencil.  THEN I made the message up from a selection of stamps that just make a great message.
The little birds are diecut and attached with dimensional foam.
.
For this person the dreaded 40th birthday is turned into a positive (I hope).

Merry

I love using non-traditional colours for Christmas.  This year my tree is going to be decorated in purple and turquoise ... probably ... or maybe lime green and gold ...

Anyway here's to a purple and pink Christmas! with piercings!

Singing the Blues

This little fella is counting the snowflakes as they fall.

Its is an ATC but would work equally well for a card.  I love the colours and the shaded effect of the blues (which are the stamped part - it is a negative stamp).  It works really well against the punched out snowflakes at the bottom which exposes the card underneath which happens to be covered in crystal glitter.  Beak & legs are drawn in gold pen; bird coloured in black pen.  Snowflake embossed silver.

Kingfisher Blue

Photo inspiration & stunning colours meant this was always going to be a simple card.  And I love black and white with a pop of colour!  Can you see he has a black and white collar?  Such a classy dresser!

I made the background card with the wax paper resist technique from Splitcoast Stampers.  I used glossy photographic paper and various blue shades of distress inks.  I think the pattern looks a bit like feathers (entirely accidental!).

Meilleurs Voeux

Meilleurs Voeux - Best Wishes

I have been learning French and now have the opportunity to use my French stamps for a lot more things than merci/thank you!  I love this petit tres beau French monsieur and decided to use him for the sketch/challenge.  His hat, scarf and baguettes are paper pieced.  Before printing monsieur, I used distress inks to make a blobby patch to put him on and give him colour.

white poinsettia

Poinsettias are traditionally the flower of Christmas, however I don't like red ones, so here's a white one.  I made it a top fold card for a change too.

I wanted a wreath look without using a wreath, so tinkered with the clock, taking the middle out, wrapped it in gold cord and hey presto! a wreath.  I also like the off the edge look.

As you know, I love using sketches and always find them challenging.   I wanted this to be able to be a masculine card, hence no ribbons or bling.  I do love that bronze metal star though.

Sweet

Who doesn't think lemonade just sounds like summer?  Freshly squeezed lemons, some honey, maybe some fizzy water, a sprig of mint,  mmmmmhhmm, what a treat.   Maybe in a hammock under a shady tree?  We are just coming up to summer here so the citrus trees are loaded. Or maybe it's winter where you are, how about a hot lemon drink to get some natural vitamin C?  You don't need to have a cold to enjoy it!

To give someone a treat in the card, how about popping in a recipe for homemade lemonade, or sachets of instant?

I like using black to set off other strong colours (lovin' that orange and black) and it also gave me an opportunity to use dies that maybe don't get used so often.

I like the strong shapes and simple look.   I hardly ever use orange ... ok make that almost never .. but I like it here.  But I do like using black.

Sometimes shapes or images are the inspiration, sometimes  colour.  Lots of orange inspiration at the moment!

Hhhhhhh...............

Halloween; Colour inspiration

I did this for grandchildren... and I guess it gets you thinking like a child, so a good exercise all round.  I must admit my favourite is the fat little spider.

I used to have a pet spider called Harry living in a corner of my kitchen window.  He lived there for most of a year, keeping other insects under control, keeping to himself, and living peacefully.  UNTIL, one day when I was at work, my mother (who was staying for a few days) thought I was a bad housekeeper and got to work.  Poor Harry.  :-(
Now I keep a fake spider in the window of my cabinet which amuses the grandchildren, who thought it was a real one for a long time.  It still keeps me amused.  It drives other adults crazy!

Made with mainly diecutting and using traditional colours.  Black acrylic paint used to 'dirty' the orange circle.

Fall-ing

FallY'all; One layer autumn

I know it's autumn in the northern hemisphere, but we are just in spring! That makes is very hard to think 'autumn' when we are just longing for warmth and sun and blossom.

I was thinking about this and relating it to the sentiment.  Just imagine what the life of a leaf is like: springing out of a branch as a tiny dot, stretching and growing and spreading out into a big, grownup leaf.  Dancing around in the sunshine and breezes, maybe conversing with a visiting bird or butterfly, having a shower on dry, thirsty days in summer.  Then in autumn, changing into your vibrant coloured coat ready to wave goodbye in a clear sky and stiff breeze, knowing your coat isn't enough to keep you warm through the winter, but leaving behind the bud promise of another leaf in the spring.

Kaiser antique gold spray.  Leaf clear stamps, stamped using both sides, distress inks.  Sentiment stamp.  Gold pen border handdrawn.

OOOhhhh I love getting inky.

I used double sided paper to make this trifold card, and slipped a plain blue card inside with the sentiment stamped on.  The flower is three circles of different sizes, distressed, spritzed with water, crushed, and then opened out when dry.  The ribbon is the most important item because it holds the card closed.

October cornucopia

We don't have Thanksgiving as a holiday here in New Zealand, and if we did it would likely be called Harvest Festival and held in April which is our autumn.

While I was colouring this image, I thought how fortunate we are here with good clean water & air, healthy food and no war.  It really does make me feel thankful, knowing what some people elsewhere in the world have to endure.

Falling leaves

96 Fall

I stamped the green card with a script stamp in a tonal colour, not too obvious because I wanted it to be the ground.  Then inked the trees stamp in various colours of ink with the colours grading downwards, as they do in autumn.  Matted onto pearlish brown card with a wide border at the bottom. Punched leaves , scrunched them, inked and spritzed colour over and adhered them with fine dimensional foam.

Stamped in red ink, stamped again with black ink on scraps and paper pieced, hat, scarf and buttons.  Coloured his nose with pencils and cut him out.
torn paper for the snowy ground,  and punched snowflakes in two sizes.  All arranged onto a dotty paper.

Christmas bird

Sparkle

I love a vintage-y look but with a modern twist, does that make sense?

This bird looked like it was sitting on a twig while it is snowing.  Paper lacey border along the top, and matted in the same paper as the dark strip.  All layered.  The diagonal chevrons are sparkly adhesive ribbon.  Finally I punched snowflakes, layering the larger one, added them with dimensional foam, topping them with gems.  I like the muted effect and soft colours although that is not my usual palette.

All the papers came from the same paper pad, including the bird.

Travel

Punched a notebook top on white card, stamped sentiment in different shades of blue.  Used a page out of a map book, curled the corner.  Stamped a bicycle, matted and tied embroidery floss around, fraying the ends.  Stamped 'fun' on a giant brad.  On the blue base card, a trail of footprints wanders up the page.
I have arranged everything at 'whoopsy' angles to create a sense of casual movement and, I hope, fun.

Something Sweet

Something sweet, sparkle

I have this jar stamp and was looking for things to put in it, so after a quick supermarket visit, I photographed a pile of these sour worm sweets, printed on computer, stamped the jar over and cut it out. I stamped the lid on gold paper and inked it.  Make a tag, distressed it, added a gold reinforcer. Stamped the sentiment, isn't it perfect?  then cut out three of the sweets, glued and covered them with sparkly sugary glitter - and they look just like the real thing!
