white poinsettia

Poinsettias are traditionally the flower of Christmas, however I don't like red ones, so here's a white one.  I made it a top fold card for a change too.

I wanted a wreath look without using a wreath, so tinkered with the clock, taking the middle out, wrapped it in gold cord and hey presto! a wreath.  I also like the off the edge look.

Journey

As you know, I love using sketches and always find them challenging.   I wanted this to be able to be a masculine card, hence no ribbons or bling.  I do love that bronze metal star though.

This card uses a mixture of papers from my scraps bin.  Some are slightly distressed, but all are different, and I like how they go together.

Die: Kaisercraft clock
Sentiment stamp: Kaisercraft
bronze stickon brad: MME

Sweet

Who doesn't think lemonade just sounds like summer?  Freshly squeezed lemons, some honey, maybe some fizzy water, a sprig of mint,  mmmmmhhmm, what a treat.   Maybe in a hammock under a shady tree?  We are just coming up to summer here so the citrus trees are loaded. Or maybe it's winter where you are, how about a hot lemon drink to get some natural vitamin C?  You don't need to have a cold to enjoy it!

To give someone a treat in the card, how about popping in a recipe for homemade lemonade, or sachets of instant?

Lemon stamp: A Day for Daisies
DrinkyGlass stamp: Sorry folks, it was just in my scrappy box of tricks, probably given to me by someone else
Sentiment HeidiSwapp
Strip of d/s tape and crystal glitter.  Images coloured with Reno pens.  Some Kindyglitz and wink of stella white.

I like using black to set off other strong colours (lovin' that orange and black) and it also gave me an opportunity to use dies that maybe don't get used so often.

I like the strong shapes and simple look.   I hardly ever use orange ... ok make that almost never .. but I like it here.  But I do like using black.

Sometimes shapes or images are the inspiration, sometimes  colour.  Lots of orange inspiration at the moment!

hello girls

Make your mark, Anything goes

I love this stamp and can use the  whole stamp or just one of the girls. I must admit I like doing their makeup!

Flower wishes

Sketch Mojo; Autumn colours

What a great sketch.  I've had these giant flowers forever and finally a chance to use them!  And in autumn colours which I hardly ever work in! I like it with the light blue which reminds me of those clear autumn skies ... the last grandstand of summer.

Diecut frame: Dienamics
Flowers: Petaloo
Scrap of lace & paper from stash.

Hi there Lacey

VerveSketch; favourite pastels

Today I felt like doing something in soft pastel colours for this one so that the big rounds weren't too dominating, hence the mainly tone on tone palette.

Background circles die: Kaisercraft clock
Middle circles die: Nellie nesting Doilys
Stamp: Verve
Ribbon: Martha Stewart

Welcome

Mojo Sketch

This is a pretty cute image by Bugaboo, but I think I'll have to make his lips a bit more smiley - it looks like he's going to burst into tears!

I needed to make this card as we recently had new neighbours move in. I coloured the Bugaboo image with Reno pens.  Sentiment printed on the computer.  The wine card is diecut with Spellbinders.  I like the combo of lime green and wine.

Hhhhhhh...............

Halloween; Colour inspiration

I did this for grandchildren... and I guess it gets you thinking like a child, so a good exercise all round.  I must admit my favourite is the fat little spider.

I used to have a pet spider called Harry living in a corner of my kitchen window.  He lived there for most of a year, keeping other insects under control, keeping to himself, and living peacefully.  UNTIL, one day when I was at work, my mother (who was staying for a few days) thought I was a bad housekeeper and got to work.  Poor Harry.  :-(
Now I keep a fake spider in the window of my cabinet which amuses the grandchildren, who thought it was a real one for a long time.  It still keeps me amused.  It drives other adults crazy!

Made with mainly diecutting and using traditional colours.  Black acrylic paint used to 'dirty' the orange circle.

Fall-ing

FallY'all; One layer autumn

I know it's autumn in the northern hemisphere, but we are just in spring! That makes is very hard to think 'autumn' when we are just longing for warmth and sun and blossom.

I was thinking about this and relating it to the sentiment.  Just imagine what the life of a leaf is like: springing out of a branch as a tiny dot, stretching and growing and spreading out into a big, grownup leaf.  Dancing around in the sunshine and breezes, maybe conversing with a visiting bird or butterfly, having a shower on dry, thirsty days in summer.  Then in autumn, changing into your vibrant coloured coat ready to wave goodbye in a clear sky and stiff breeze, knowing your coat isn't enough to keep you warm through the winter, but leaving behind the bud promise of another leaf in the spring.

Kaiser antique gold spray.  Leaf clear stamps, stamped using both sides, distress inks.  Sentiment stamp.  Gold pen border handdrawn.

OOOhhhh I love getting inky.

Lacey

Black lace; Sketch Saturday, Monochrome

I think inside every grown woman is still a little girl that likes dressing up, what do you think?  This gorgeous image seemed just right to go with lace, so I've called her Lacey.  I love colour, but enjoy working in monochrome as it seems to add another element of challenge.

Image: A Day For Daisies, coloured with Reno pens
Paper background: Couture Creations Hearts Ease paper pad, distressed
Paper lace: Joanna Sheen, cut out and torn
Diecut tag: Cuttlebug
Also stamped sentiment, pearls, black lace & ribbon, Wink of Stella, Kindyglitz.

gorgeous woman

Paper piecing

Stamped image on caramel card and also on patterned paper for headwrap (paper piecing).  Stamped sentiment.  Matted on dark brown and also on gold mirror board, then onto orange embossed base card.

I love this stamp because this woman looks so elegant, calm, and at ease with herself (all the things I am not!).

Autumn Butterfly

One layer autumn, autumn colours

White base card, spritzed with Kaiser antique gold.  Reverse stamped butterfly using three distress inks, then right side stamped with sepia Versafine ink. Antennae drawn in with gold pen.  Sentiment Kaisercraft stamp - "leave some room in your heart for the unimaginable".  Corners rounded.

This kind of process always make me feel very 'arty' and I usually get in a real mess, but I do enjoy it anyway!

roundness

Circular

What a lot of rounded cardness!  I tend to go for simple designs.  I like the wonky overlapped circles on this one too.

Diecut card with scallop from black card.  Tore green mulberry paper.  Diecut circles from red card.  Stamped sentiment attached with dimensional foam & red gem in centre.  Green bow to finish.

Dies: Spellbinder scallop nestie, Cuttlebug circles.
Stamp: HeroArts.

ribbon

Ribbon

I used double sided paper to make this trifold card, and slipped a plain blue card inside with the sentiment stamped on.  The flower is three circles of different sizes, distressed, spritzed with water, crushed, and then opened out when dry.  The ribbon is the most important item because it holds the card closed.

Live Simply

October cornucopia

We don't have Thanksgiving as a holiday here in New Zealand, and if we did it would likely be called Harvest Festival and held in April which is our autumn.

While I was colouring this image, I thought how fortunate we are here with good clean water & air, healthy food and no war.  It really does make me feel thankful, knowing what some people elsewhere in the world have to endure.

Pear Tree

CAS Christmas

I have always loved the images of the partridge in a pear tree song at Christmas.

Stamped image & sentiment.  Image coloured with Lyra watercolour crayons, touches of Kindyglitz.

I like the subtle colour and simple look.
