Flora

This is using a background made by me.  It is gloss photo card layered with paint and ink, stamping and over-stamping, splattering etc.  Then I have used some of the same stamps on the black mat card to take the images out to the edge using white ink.  The flower is stamp-embossed onto coloured card, painted with bleach in parts, then highlighted and shaded with coloured pencils.

This week the prompts are: House (spring quarterly), UpsideDown, Happy Things, Ink, own choice.

House (spring quarterly): remember we are now in late autumn!  How gloomy it all looks, grey sky with the sun hardly showing through the cloud.  Also the lawnmower is broken again - you can see Ian did two swoops before it broke.

Upside down:  At the moment we are trying to down size and I spent a morning outside with garden chores - sorting,  repotting and tossing stuff we don't want when we move next year.   Empty pots are upside down.  Look at all those textures.

Happy things:  This week we went to Auckland (2 hours away) for the Van Gogh Alive exhibition.  We saw the story of his life and his letters along with his paintings supersized.  He was sad, but his paintings were happy.
but the really happy thing for Ian was the promotional electric porsche painted with one of Vincent's Starry Sky paintings!

INK:  A little selection of ink on my desk!  One thing I love to do is get inky when I create.  And yes, my desk is always 'busy'.

MY CHOICE:  While in Auckland for the Van Gogh Alive, we stayed overnight with our daughter Lauren who has an an apartment on the fifth floor of the building which is one street back from Ponsonby Road.   This is the city skyline taken early in the morning just as the sun came up.  I love the subtle hues (? 50 shades of grey?)  and the geometric shapes with nature making a burst here and there!

Flowers Blooming

The flowers are stamped over card previously smooshed with distress inks.  I like this relaxed way to get more random colour; I move the stamp around until the colour appears in a likely spot.  The floowers are cut out and popped up with 3D foam tape.

Stampy Wreath

Our NZ cardswap group theme this month is wreath stamping.  I found these really old stamps that I've had forever, turned yellow and gone sticky - does anyone know how to rectify this?

I diecut a circle and used that to stamp around the outside of, then removed it and stamped again into the middle.  I was really happy with the result.

Stamps: Rosie's Studio

Edge punch: Fiskars

This week the prompts are: Selfie (spring), Nuts, Sticker, Blue, own choice.

SELFIE (spring): Sorry it's not spring here, it's late autumn.  This is taken yesterday while we were out at our friends orchard during their kiwifruit harvesting.  We help with quality control at the bins.  The hat is to stop hair getting caught in the vines and the mask is because of dust and the little kiwi hairs that float around in the air.

NUTS:  This is another aha! moment when I just happened to be making some carrot & nut muffins, and when I started chopping the nuts I remembered it was a prompt. Yay!  And I know someone will wonder about the colour of the butter ... no, it is not artificially coloured, it is because our cows are kept on pasture (not barns) and eat fresh grass all year round.

STICKER:  At the moment we are trying to go through our stuff to downsize and I came across these boxes with STICKERS from our covid lockdown in April last year when we had to get food delivered.  Wow, that seems ages ago now.

BLUE:  I love the colour of this plumbago - sky blue and so pretty and it's still flowering!  Just wait until we have our first frost ... then it will be gone until next summer.

OWN CHOICE: This week it has to be the view from our friend's deck at the orchard.  I had been in the vines until after school and was back at the house doing childminding, when I noticed this fabulous evening sky against Mt Pirongia (dormant volcano).

Thanks to our sponsor Sheepski for the wonderful image, you can get it here:  forget-me-knot-image-no-175

What mum wouldn't love to receive this lovely little bunch of flowers?

When my kids were little they used to raid my garden to find flowers to make into a bunch to give me.  Yes, some of them were bruised and broken.  Yes, sometimes they were weeds. Yes, the colour combos were often quite weird, but oh how I loved that they wanted to give me them.  Sometimes they would have bits of foil wrap or they would be tied up with bits of wool.

I like the freshness of the blue and white with the touch of greeness.  I distressed the edges of all the card and papers to go with the rustic image.  Dots of GA in the centre of the flowers.

What fun making your own backgrounds.  This one is done on watercolour paper using inks, paints, mists and dyes.   I have no idea where the image came from but I have a wee stack of them.  I think they were on a 12x12 sheet that I chopped up ready to use.

iSpy # 18

 iSpy #18 photo challenge

This week the prompts are:  Mail, How you feel today, Reduce-reuse-recycle, shoot from the hip, own choice.

Mail:  this has got to be our mailbox.  Tin Chooky stands guard.

How you feel today:  Slim.  Well ...  slimmer.  I took this in a bathroom at a quilting class. Everyone at the class was amazed at this mirror that takes 3 kg off when you visit the bathroom!!

Reduce-reuse-recycle:  These are our two swivelling composting barrels.  You just rotate them every day and it makes compost fast.  You really need two, one that you add fresh stuff to, and one that is maturing.  They are positioned by the herb garden midway between the house and the vegetable garden (in the background, fenced to keep out rabbits, pukeko and chickens).  It all goes back onto our garden when it's ready.   When done, it is almost black, rich and crumbly and doesn't smell at all.

Shoot from the hip:   This was a hard thing to do with a phone! I just snapped away at everything in the hope that something would be useable.  It is slightly out of focus, but I figured I couldn't miss a hydrangea bush. I love the afternoon light coming through - a happy accident.

Own choice:  When I was collecting the mail the other day I discovered these little toadstools growing on an old tree stump just inside our gate.  The next day they were withered away and I wouldn't have even noticed them.  I love the textures in this photo.  Taken the same time as the hydrangea, late afternoon light.

All taken on my Samsung mobile phone.
