Crafty Chefs August

I made this to send to my second oldest grandchild who is away at university at the moment (our uni year is Mar to Nov).  It must be stressful with lockdowns, her first year away from home, a strange city, new people and such a disrupted year.

The recipe must do: diecut, interactive, specialty paper, ribbon/twine.
The can do: colour an image, add 3 of something(lines), add glitter/sparkle.
I managed to get all the ingredients in.

Oh I just love this and had such fun making it.

I have been going through my stash and trying to use stuff I had forgotten about (you know how it is).  I discovered Infusions which I had bought at a show last year and not really known how to use.  So I looked at a couple of colour burst tutorials (Infusions is a similar product only not so bright) and then have spent the last few days experimenting.

I embossed the card, spritzed it with water, allowed time for it to properly wet, then with Infusions powder on a dry paintbrush just sprinkled it onto the appropriate areas.  The powder activates when it gets wet.  Then I used a water brush to draw out the colour into the shape of the embossed roses and leaves.  I only used 2 colours of Infusions, but they have grains of other colours in them which makes a stunning effect.   CLICK on pic for close up look.

I have posted a couple of items already using this product.  BUT my fave has to be this one.  I would like this made into fabric for a summer dress!  So gorgeously feminine and romantic with an arty feel.

More masks

Today was another day on the sewing machine, this time making straight masks.  I have now run out of the non-woven vilene I have been putting in the middle, so that is it!

I think the washable masks are so much better for the planet than using disposable ones (and fun too).

Whale Sparkle

This is for the NZ cardswap using a technique called iron-off embossing 2 for 1 cards from a youtube video from Jennifer McGuire.

This is using the ironed-off panel and I like the wave-ish look so gave the whale somewhere to play.  My swap buddy this  time is a swimming instructor so I thought she would like something swimmy.

Face masks

A morning on the sewing machine.  After more than 100 covid-free days, we have a community outbreak and while Auckland is isolated at level 3, the rest of us are now at level 2.  These are for family, as it may become necessary to wear masks.

Cosy Toes

I have taken up knitting again, spurred on by having cold feet while watching tv.  They are snuggly soft and look great in the variegated wool.

I decided I will keep knitting them in kids sizes to give away, or larger sizes for rest homes; that should use up my bits and pieces of wool.

I got the free pattern off the internet by googling knitted slippers.

Kitty Hugs

In the past few days I engaged in a video mystery stamp at Pinky's World.  It was on 6 August live, but I forgot and caught up later.  Link here: pinkysworldsuprojects-mystery-stamping


We got given the list of materials to prepare ahead of time, then as it went live we got instructions in the form of clues.   I really didn't know what was going to happen or how it worked, but it was fun.
Here is my result.  I was pretty conservative in my choices, not knowing what to expect.

At the end, for embellishment I added stitching with black pen, a pearly flower, and inked the edge of the card.
