Be happy

I made this for a NZ cardswap which was for a fancy fold card.  I hope you liked it Dawn and will try it sometime yourself.

I used lots of papers, the two feature ones from a Forever in Time "fresh" stack, but with other bits from my scrappy bin stash as well for the flowers.  The flower layers are punched, wet, scrunched, dried then unravelled, some inked, then layered.

This has to be one of my favourite folds.  I love all the angles in this fold, which seem to give it an element of movement, and creates pockets to pop things in.  (Called a twist-fold by most people or a twisted card by Splitcoaststampers).

Knitwit Birdbrain

I love these colours!

I used 3 patterned papers (dotty, stripey and pink blotchy) plus linen caramel card and matted it onto an embossed turquoise card seeing she knitted a turquoise scarf.  Oh and of course she had to have a little turquoise sparkle!

Flowertime

Doesn't this make it feel like springtime already?
This is From The Heart stamp of the month for April.  I also wanted to do a negative:positive die cut.

 I die cut the sentiment (which includes the butterfly) twice, switched the colours and inlaid the positive butterfly into the negative hole, before lifting its wings free.  I also left the greeting as a negative and then had a positive diecut iridescent hot pink doily!

I coloured the image with Copic pens and although I've never used pink and green with touches of golden-orange before, it seems to work.   I've always liked hot pink and bright orange.  I like the grey pocketwatch that cools things down a bit too.

A little colour

A little colour ... goes a long way to helping you feel good.  Well actually a little is good, and more is even better!

Those of you in the northern hemisphere will be having spring showers, while here we are looking forward to autumn rain after a long, hot, dry summer.  And what is more cheery than brightly coloured umbrellas?  The lime green one down in front and the hot pink haven't photographed well - they're a lot brighter, but I have managed to get the sparkly card sparkling!

Sock monkeys

This is one of my non-card making activities - making sock monkeys.  It all started when my local quilting guild started making them to go in Ambulances to give to young children for comfort and to distract them when they are hurt.
I don't make button eyes because sewn felt eyes can be given safely even to a baby.
I've also made them to give to migrant refugee children who often arrive here with nothing, and also to a friend who volunteers in India.   There is no nationality limitations with sock monkeys!

Some people went on to make other kinds of animals, but I figured these cheeky fellas make me smile so they are sure to make a child feel better.

I just got this paper pad and the challenge for myself was to find a way to use this strongly patterned paper with swans, which is quite a way from my usual dots-checks-stripes... and not my usual colours either (I don't like any sort of pink at all).

April Showers

"Singin' in the rain, just singin' in the rain..."

I covered the dots on the umbrella with Glossy Accents for resist, then coloured the umbrella a cheery red.  The background is watercoloured, salt crystals put on when it was wet to make it blotchy, then when it was dry I sponged white pigment ink over for clouds.  Die cut an oval hole in the rain-patterned card, adhere acetate behind the hole and surround the oval and edges with 3D foam tape to make a shaker which is filled with iridescent clear and silver sequins.  Puffy clouds and a wee stamped sentiment strip finish the card.

Wine ages

I see our little feathered friend has been tampering with the sentiment.  Very clever little birdbrain.

The orange panel is stamped with Versamark ink, and heat embossed in white to create a resist, then several colours of distress inks are sponged over. 



I used the sketch and the twist - sponging.

Dream flight

I have never found the right image to go with this sentiment before - this one seemed just right.  I like that while she is flying she is sheltered from the rain by the umbrella, and her little feathered friends fly with her.  When I was a little kid I always thought I would be able to fly.  :-(

I made the background using the wax paper resist technique on an embossing folder with distress inks.  The sentiment is stamped with Hero Arts Ombre ink.

Fierce!

"Though she be but little she is fierce"

This describes quite a few women I know (in a good way),  and it seems the smaller they are, the fiercer.  And the more they have had to deal with in life, the fiercer they are.  They survive and flourish.  They may be small but are larger than life when it counts.

I bought this stamp set because I liked the sentiment. I liked this fiery paper for the background, stamped the cat mask and heat embossed in black. Stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in gold.  Munched the corners with a die and then tore bits off. Added sequins, because all these women sparkle.

Happy Birthday Bloobel

Over at The Crafters Café Challenge blog the challenge is "use some lace", an opportunity for a little bit of girly fun.  This wonderful image is Bloobel Stamps  'weak at the knees', how much more girly can you get?

I made the background from silver lace stuck on turquoise card - lots of sparkle. I printed two images and coloured her with Reno pens, then diecut a label, masking her and sponging through an old lace curtain with blue to tone down the white background and edges inked.  I cut out one image and stuck it with foam pads.  She has Wink of Stella on her dress to give shimmer.  I had the flower (cut from a scrap of patterned paper left over from another project) to put in her hair. I put scraps of ribbon and lace for her to dance on.

Sea bed wishes

I need a get well card for a friend in hospital who lives near the sea, so instead of a sick-bed card, she is getting a sea-bed card!

The central square is masked, then sprayed with glimmermists.  The seaweed and shells are stamped with black versafine ink to get all the fine detail.  When dry I used distress inks and water to colour the seaweeds, and gold versacolor well-watered to paint over the shells so they slightly shimmer.  The sentiment is stamped in HeroArts Ombre ink.
