Cat's Clowder

The collective name for cats is a clowder of cats.  Who said that?  Surely it should be a purr of cats? or even a purrrty of cats?  I'm sure you can spot your cat in there somewhere.

I made the background behind the cats by masking the image, sponging with Distress Inks, splattering with black Decoart Media mist, and stamping the words randomly.  This stamp is new to me.

Image Stamp:  Rubbernecker (new)

Sentiment stamps: Little Birdie

Also: Copics, Distress Inks, gold washi tape, black Decoart Media mist, Kindyglitz on some eyes.

House Mouse Bloom

House Mouse & Friends #356 - Anything Goes with option of Something New.

A new-to-me technique of stamping and colouring on a coffee filter.  It hardly shows in the photo but the flower has 3 layers and is quite ruffled.  It is also the first time I have used this stamp although I have had it for a while.  The image is stamped, the background is sponged locally, then misted with Perfect Pearls.  The three coffee filters are watercoloured with D.Inks, dried, stamped, cut out, crumpled and applied in layers.

Image: House Mouse/Stampendous

Sentiment:

Also: Distress inks, Copics, Perfect Pearls spray, coffee filters.

Watercolour Flowers

A dabble in watercolour stamping.  And a sketch; I haven't done a sketch for ages.   (Oops,  after posting this, I had to change one of the pearls as I noticed it wasn't quite matching the others.  I had made the card at night and hadn't noticed.)

iSpy #52

iSpy #52  the last week of the year.

Every week, Lysha puts up a photographic challenge with prompts for us to look out for, then we share on Lysha's Saturday (my Sunday).  It's always wonderful to see how people are inspired.

The prompts for this week were:  Needles, colour Black, Great, Starts with R, your choice.

NEEDLES:  in my case, knitting needles.

BLACK:  I normally have the black candle holder and the black candlestick sitting in the window, but I decorated the candle stick with  silver curly ribbon and black baubles and hung a glass beaded (with black) decoration to catch the light.  My colour theme this year was black & silver.

GREAT:  Known as the giants of the forest, in our backyard we have a young kauri tree that is so far only about 9m tall with a girth of 1m.

FYI:  Kauri are among the world's mightiest trees, growing to over 50m tall, with trunk girths up to 16m, and living for over 2,000 years.  Agathis australis, commonly known by its Māori name kauri (pronounced "Ko-ree"), is a coniferous tree found in the northern regions of New Zealand's North Island.  The largest kauri trees did not attain as much height or girth at ground level but contain more timber in their cylindrical trunks than comparable Sequoias with their tapering stems.

STARTS WITH R: Rabbits.  This year we have had three wild rabbits and a black domestic escapee living here.  One  day I snapped a rabbit frolicking on the lawn just outside the dining room window.

OWN CHOICE:  At the moment I am duck-sitting Maggie and her eight ducklings while our son and his family are away on holiday.  We have had them 6 days and I'm sure they have doubled in size already.

Every week, Lysha puts up a photographic challenge with prompts for us to look out for, then we share on Lysha's Saturday (my Sunday).  It's always wonderful to see how people are inspired.

This week the prompts were: Backyard, Front of house, Selfie, Your choice, Your choice.

Backyard:

Front of house:

Selfie:  What you see is what you get, sunburned nose and all!

Your choice:  We four Quilty Girls are all doing the "12 days of Christmas"  set with embroidery on wool felt.  So far I have finished the day 8 "Maid a-milking", so still four figures to go.  Maybe by next Christmas...

Your Choice: Christmas day it was  more than 30 deg in the shade, so we moved 3 tables out under the trees as it was cooler there than inside or on the deck.  Three of our kids, their spouses and six grandchildren got together.  Unfortunately one of our daughters and her family were unable to make it.  We will catch up with her later in the new year.

Summer Christmas

Yes, we have a summer Christmas and here it was over 30 deg C in the shade yesterday.  Luckily we were warned so we set up three tables joined together outside under the trees and it was fabulous - still hot, but a lot cooler than on the deck or inside.  Today is boxing day and already (at 9.00am) looks like a scorcher.

I love heat embossing - it was one of the first techniques I learned and the magic still happens.  This time I used white EP on the tree and gold EP for the senti, sponged over with Distress Inks, then misted and splotted with perfect pearls mist.  I then sponged over the tree and sun to make it stand out from the background, and inked the edges.

Stamp:    Stampit

Senti stamp:  magazine freebie

Also: DInks, WoS on stars, Perfect pearls

It is curved and fits with lots of Christmas images

There were 14 of us here for Christmas day, sadly one daughter and her family were unable to make it.  So three of our kids, their spouses, and six grandchildren.  Afterwards we played games - in the shade! Some of the kids had a swim.
