Houses Don't Make a Village, People Do

My art wall quilt hanging in TCC Art Centre Gallery.

"Houses don't make a village, people do.  He tangata he tangata he tangata!"

Started in 2018 at a class, then abandoned because I didn't know where I was going with it when it came to finishing.  Resurrected this year 2026 when I finally realised what I wanted it to say and how to quilt it.  I used matchstick quilting technique and it fits the style perfectly.  I love it. The fabrics are all raw edge batik, quilted with varigated cotton thread.

We live in a retirement village and that inspired the title of the work.  A political statement, oh yes.

Love it - and a beautiful finish to it also with the pinstripe quilting - well done on your 'political statement :)

This quilt piece is just GORGEOUS. I'm so glad you shared it with us. I like how you added the people and mentioned how it take people to make a village, not just buildings. Thanks for joining us at Try It on Tuesday. hugs-Erika
