I.C.U. Bear

The full name of this card is "I.C.U. Bear baring it all".  I don't know about other countries, but in NZ hospitals I.C.U. stands for Intensive Care Unit.

I have been waiting for ages to use this double-sided image, then I couldn't decide whether to make it a window card or a spinner.  Window won.

12 days of Christmas, day 1

A small group of us Quilty Girls (5) are working our way through the 12 days of Christmas.  Doing one a month, we should have the set done by next Christmas  ;-D
I'm not sure what I will do with them, maybe give them away as a set to one of the family.  The date is embroidered on the back, so may be a heritage set?

They are made in wool felt and simply embroidered.

Santa's fly-by

Not one to waste anything, I had this round diecut left from another project and just had to use it.  The design is inspired by a sketch.

The colours are New Zealand summer Christmas colours.  Our native trees are evergreen, blue for clear skies and sea - most kiwi's would spend some time at the beach (most people are not more than 2 hours from a coastline), and red for the pohutukawa, our NZ christmas tree.

Christmas Joy

Yes, it's that C-word.

The paper was the inspiration for this and I have used a sketch from Tuesday Morning sketches.
Instead of the red and green of traditional cards, I decided to give it a bit of a twist with red and turquoise blue, which reflects our kiwi summer Christmas (the blue of the sea, and the red blossom of the pohutukawa tree which flowers at Christmas).

I like the paper not square to the edges, rounded corners and a circle diecut from one corner.  The word is diecut in layers from black card and silver mirrorcard.  I added silver cord to look like a bauble,added a organza bow, and some sequins to pretty it up.

It's always good to leave a little sparkle wherever you go!

A one-layer CAS card

I always love to use inks and textures and get messy!  This time I cut a die and used it as a stencil, then pushed embossing ink through before covering it with sparkling embossing powder.  Then a couple of shades of glimmer mist to highlight the pattern.

TIME to celebrate Friends!

Friends are the flowers of life - isn't that true?

For this ONE LAYER card,  I placed the image to one side (so I could make a border), layered the sentiment and printed it off twice, once on the card, once on printer paper to use as a mask.  The sentiment has smooshing behind it (the flower is masked first) to link it to the flower and the plant is handpainted using DistressInks as paints.   The image is protected with masking so I could stamp a block stamp over the pot.  A little touch of sparkle in the centre of the flower.
The border is also stamped onto the insert.

Birthday 18

I made this for our grandaughter Eva's 18th birthday.
I always think 18 is such a lovely age when teenage girls turn into young women - hence the butterflies.

The colour scheme is crisp lime and royal blue, even though the lime looks yellowish in the photos (it's actually the same colour as the ribbon!).
There is a tag in a hidden pocket in the top for our message, and a couple of tiny fairies tucked in - Eva was a fairy fanatic before she decided to be a tomboy.

Merry Dancer

What a merry little dancer and so light on her feet!
I made this to look like a present using washi tape with metallic gold highlights.  Instead of a bow I gave her a pretty skirt to dance in, made from a tiny scrap of ribbon.

Wellness Patch

I made this for a child get well; all stitched up and good to go.   Don't you love that pussycat suit?  And isn't Patch a good name?

The background is made using three colours of Distress Ink, water spritzed and dabbed etc.  I also used D.Inks as watercolour to paint the catsuit so I could get a furry look.  The patches are coloured with Copics.

Merry Mouses

Such a gorgeous image, so I kept it simple.

The green frame is diecut offset to allow room for a ribbon, then splattered with white acrylic paint.  It is actually the outside of a panel die cut out from the inside which is used on another project (so, a snippet).
The image is coloured with copics and placed behind the frame.  The edge of the frame has a finger-wipe of opaldust, which adds a bit of sparkle when the light hits it.

Mouse Amazing

Someone special is about to launch a new e-business and has done a lot of hard work to make it a reality.  She is the amazingest woman I know, very creative, energetic, gracious, and giving.

I printed two images on card, colouring the background of one card with three orange distress inks, spritzed and dabbed, then flicked gold paint over.  I coloured part of the other image, cut it and the speech bubble and used 3D d/s foam to adhere so it would stand out and have shadows.

 The background is smooshed onto an acrylic block with Fired Bricks and Festive Berries Distress Inks.  I printed the pandas (4 different images), cut them out and stacked them (some with 3D foam).   I had to define the eyes with white and black pens to make them more obvious.

Shake it up Holly

I was asked to make a card for a friends niece's 10th birthday.  Instructions were, she is blonde, blue-eyed and loves the sea.

I used chose this colour and made a shaker card.  I used an ombre effect on the name and numbers just to highlight  them and accentuate the sea colours.
